Gas is how much per gallon? March 18, 2011

I had the following conversation with my car today…

Car: The gas light is on you know.

Me: Yes, but we are in Spokane. Gas is $3.49 per gallon.

Car: So you don’t think you’re going to make it all the way to pick up Rocco from daycare and then go to the gas station do you?

Me: You’re right. I will have to stop.

Car: Just get a few gallons to last until we go to Coeur d’Alene on Sunday. Gas is cheaper there.

Me: Sounds good. You know, gas keeps going up and we might have to look at taking the bus again.

Car: No, really?

Me: Oh come on… you’ll have all the other cars at the park and ride lot to keep you company.

Car: You know that the bus isn’t very convenient. I’d rather go to work with you.

Me: True, our area needs some improvement on our public transportation for the entire metro area. But it does save money and is good for the environment…even if it is a little inconvenient.

Car: I don’t like where this is going.

Me: Don’t worry. You have about $.50 more per gallon before you need to start worring about this. We’ll revisit this conversation then.

How much is too much for gas? At what point will you have to think about alternate transportation options? We drive a lot to work so this creeping price per gallon is starting to shrink money from other areas of our monthly budget.
